Our second event was held on October 10th 2005 at the top of the Gherkin and brought together 260 women from all sectors of construction for drinks and to hear from two fantastic speakers. We opened the evening with the proposition: "Women are an increasingly powerful force in the economy, and in the construction industry. In five years' time, the companies at the top of the league will be those who have recognised this fact, are able to sell to women, and attract and retain the best staff from the whole talent pool." |
After outlining our vision for the industry, we handed over to two visionary clients, heading up two major projects impacting the London skyline. In the private sector, Sara Fox, former New Buildings Director at Swiss Re, gave the lowdown on the development of the Gherkin which she was responsible for. From the public sector, Sarah Ebanja, chief client advisor for the £700million Arsenal Development Scheme spoke of her career and current role. |
It was fabulous to see hundreds of women of all ages and sectors gathered together, meeting their peers and celebrating their success. Along with the spectacular venue and breathtaking view, feedback from numerous attendees commented on the convivial atmosphere. Again, special thanks to the speakers and the Women in Architecture team for helping to organise and host the night. Thanks also to our sponsor AMX and affiliates KPF, Wilkinson Eyre Architects, Kennedys Solicitors, Faber Maunsell and the Concrete Centre. |
